Obama sets visa restrictions for Russian officials

The U.S. is imposing a visa ban on a number of officials that it says are undermining the territorial integrity of Ukraine. NBC’s Peter Alexander reports.

>> reporter: the white house is just putting out a statement that the u.s. is imposing a visa ban on a number of officials and individuals that it says have taken steps to undermine the territorial integrity of ukraine . senior administrations here at the white house say those restrictions apply to both russians and ukrainians. separately we are learning president obama just today signed an executive order authorizing sanctions on, as the statement describes it, individuals and entity responsible for undermining democratic processes or institutions in ukraine . today in rome secretary of state john kerry is expected to meet again with his russian counterpart. their discussions wednesday in paris produced little tangible progress. the white house says the u.s. is prepared to consider more steps, more sanctions as necessary, natalie, depending how the situation in ukraine develops.
