Embattled Ukraine president promises early elections

After several days of deadly violence, Ukraine’s president, Viktor Yanukovych, is promising early presidential elections and a coalition government. Efforts are underway to find a peaceful resolution. NBC’s Richard Engel reports.

>> reporter: good morning. after the bloodiest day yesterday, efforts are now underway to try to find a peaceful resolution to this conflict. there were negotiations all night between the ukrainian president and members of the opposition. after those all-night talks, the ukrainian president said he would agree to certain concessions. he would limit his own authority, giving more power to the parliament, the early elections in december and form a coalition government with the opposite. some members of the opposition here are welcoming this deal. it is not final. but here in the square, the protesters are still gathered, many of them want the elections to be held right now and for the ukrainian president to be immediately removed from office.
