>>> we are back in sochi with what is trending "today." and matt, this first one is for you. you are getting a night off. because bob costas is back in the chair for nbc's prime time . bob has been recovering from a terrible eye infection. he's on the phone with us now. bob, good morning. how are you feeling? we're so happy to have you back.

>> yeah. i'm glad to be back, too. and i want to thank matt and meredith for doing a good job and filling in. i really feel bad that especially matt -- meredith who is twiddling her thumbs a little bit. but matt, i owe him so many favors. that's the worst part of the whole thing. i'm not 100%, that's for sure, but if i waited until i was 100%, the olympics would be over. if the audience can put up with still a little bit of red eyes hiding behind the glasses,ky put up with it for the next week, too.

>> you looked an awful lot better. i looked at him and said, wait a minute, you're well enough to come to the set but i'm still doing the show? he does look much better. the crew, everybody over there egging to have you back. that's the best news we've had all week.

>> well, i'm looking forward to that almost as much as i'm looking forward to you and willie geist against scott hamilton and apolo ono in the upcoming olympics on the "today" show.

>> one for the ages.

>> you missed that one, bob.

>> it happened already?

>> yeah.

>> yes, it's coming up. you'll see.

>> okay.

>>> anyway, welcome back, bob, we're glad you're feeling better.

>> thanks, matt. thanks for coming out of the bullpen for me.
