The polar vortex is real! Al proves it

TODAY’s Al Roker digs back into his old textbooks to prove that “polar vortex,” a phrase much heard during the cold wave that has affected much of the country in recent days, is in fact a real meteorological term.

>> a lot of folks saying there's no such thing as a polar vortex and it's some left-wing media conspiracy. let me tell you something. first of all, we've never used the phrase global warming or climate change in conjunction with this. this is from my textbook from college, the glossary of meteorology copyright 1959 , okay. and here we go. take a look right here. polar vortex . there it is. the large-scale cyclonic circulation in the middle specifically two centers. okay. so for all the doubters out there, stop it!
