Fugitive banker accused of stealing millions

Aubrey Lee Price, a former banker presumed to be dead after allegedly stealing millions, was in court after being arrested for a traffic stop in Georgia. NBC’s Mark Potter reports.

>>> turning now to georgia where a fugitive banker accused of fraud is ordered to remain in custody. aubrey lee price was presumed by some to be dead but he was actually on the run until a traffic stop lead to his arrest. here's nbc's mark potter .

>> reporter: aubrey lee price came to court accused of raising millions of dollars from investors and losing their life savings in a fraud scheme. his appearance now, a far cry from where he was a bank director and minister. after vanishing a year and a half ago his time on the run came to an end along i-95 in georgia.

>> he asked if i wanted to know who he was and i said yes and he said i'm going to make you famous.

>> they obtained $21 million of bank funds which he lost. he was last seen in this security camera video in june 2012 buying a ticket for a ferry boat ride in key west . that same month he sent out a confession letter suggesting he would commit suiciding writing i realize time is up and that there is no way i can work my way out of the mess i created. later a florida judge declared him legally dead ruling he took his life at sea. wendy cross who lost her life savings says now that price has been found alive she hopes he has lot of time to think about what he did.

>> i'll be happy he rots in jail for the rest of his life.

>> reporter: he told them after disappearing he was homeless. but florida officials say he was renting a house where hundreds of marijuana plants were found. more conflicting accounts in an alleged fraud costing millions. for today, mark potter , nbc news, miami.
