>>> george zimmerman is back in the news and headed back to court today. he spent the night in a florida jail after being involved in an alleged altercation with his girlfriend. nbc's kerry sanders has more on that. good morning to you.
>> reporter: good morning, matt. george zimmerman is back in the same jail where he was placed after he was arrested in the shooting death of 17-year-old trayvon martin. this morning, he faces new charges including one count of aggravated assault with a weapon against his girlfriend. deputies exited the home where george zimmerman has been living with a soft sided gun case. inside, what is believed to be zimmerman 's shotgun and semiautomatic ar-15. a search warrant for the weapons was signed by a judge after zimmerman was arrested monday. this all followed a call to 911 by his girlfriend samantha scheibe.
>> are you serious.
>> 911, do you need police, fire, or medical?
>> i need police right now.
>> reporter: in her five minute call to 911 she says she asked zimmerman to leave her home.
>> he has a gun breaking all of my stuff right now.
>> reporter: she continues talking not only to the 911 operator .
>> you broke my glass table and you broke my sunglasses and you put your gun in my face and you told me to get out. get out of here.
>> okay. where is his weapon at?
>> he just put it down.
>> reporter: at one point in the car scheibe says he knows how to do this. he knows how to play this game.
>> i need you to calm down, okay?
>> reporter: since zimmerman was acquitted on charges of second degree murder months ago he has been pulled over in texas for speeding, cited in florida for a traffic violation and two months ago police responded to a fight between zimmerman and his wife shelly. no charges were filed. they're now divorcing. monday following his girlfriend's call to 911, zimmerman who barricaded the door while she was outside with deputies called 911 himself.
>> okay. the police is already there. why are you calling? what happened?
>> i just want everyone to know the truth.
>> reporter: in his seven minute call zimmerman says she broke the glass table and while he has a weapon he never pointed it at anyone.
>> i never pulled a firearm. i never displayed it. when i was packing it i'm sure she saw it. i mean, we keep it next to the bed.
>> reporter: late monday scheibe returned to the house with deputies to retrieve personal items. george zimmerman did surrender peacefully but only after they forced their way through the door. he is unavailable for comment. his previous attorneys tell nbc news they no longer represent him. george zimmerman will be arraigned in court on those charges later this afternoon, matt.
