Skating duo: ‘Respect’ is key to success

Ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White are favorites at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics after winning 10 straight Grand Prix events, and they tell TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie that they are still preparing for the Olympics.

>>> countdown to sochi . the ice dancing duo burst on to the scene in 2010 . they won silver at vancouver . they have been on a roll ever since including winning skate america this past weekend. [ inaudible ] are you ready for sochi ?

>> we're getting there. we still have a little bit of time which we're going to take advantage of but we're really excited.

>> you guys have been skating together since you were 10 years old. why does this partnership work?

>> we have a lot of respect for each other and like all great relationships that's what it's based on.

>> you won silver in 2010 and you have been on fire ever since. how do you think you guys changed as skaters since vancouver ?

>> i think we felt as though vancouver was the starting point for our mature career. we have grown and we're more confident in what we do on the ice.

>> and you're working on your program and between now and sochi you just perfect it?

>> absoluteliment we have great material but we want to make it perfect so it's good as can be.

>> what are you skating to this morning?

>> we're skating to our short dance which is set to my fair lady .

>> are you going to sing too?

>> of course.

>> in your mind, right?
