>>> but weather is today's top story. temperatures are tumbling across the country. ron mott is in new buffalo, michigan. how cold is it?

>> reporter: good morning. temperatures stayed above the freezing mark overnight but at worst we'll see a mix of snow and freezing rain which is what we're seeing right now. the only people hoping for snow are the school kids. they'll have to go to school today. as the system moves across into the region we saw light snow in south dakota . very cold in the western suburbs and flurries were reported but today a day for gloves and umbrellas and folks will be happy if that's all they have to do but it's going to be a pretty messy compute as we go through the morning.
