Drunk-driving YouTube confessor to be indicted

Prosecutors plan to indict 22-year old Matthew Cordle, the Ohio man who confessed on YouTube to being drunk behind the wheel during a crash that took a man’s life, for aggravated vehicular homicide. NBC’s Kristen Dahlgren reports.

>> reporter: he was a 61-year-old navy veteran, a photographer and father of two killed when his truck slammed into his jeep. cordell had been speeding and driving the wrong way. the video came as a surprise to his defense attorney .

>> in my years of doing this i've never met somebody that at the on set of the case prior to charges even being filed has accepted responsibility.

>> and to the prosecutor.

>> it's a very compelling statement with a goal of deterring other people from drinking and driving . almost like a public service announcement .

>> reporter: in the video, cordell says that's exactly why he's speaking out.

>> i'm begging you, please don't drink and drive.

>> reporter: but his daughter says the video is misleading. the motives i believe are so he'll get a lighter sentence.

>> now, if cordell is charged and expected to turn himself in if he is convicted or pleads guilty he could face up to 8 years in prison.
