New section of SF Bay Bridge is open to traffic

After 11 years of building and $6.4 billion, the new eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge opened last night. The renovations took place after the bridge was found to be unsafe due to serious damage from the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
