‘Real Housewife’ Teresa Giudice, husband charged

Teresa Giudice, one of the stars of Bravo’s “Real Housewives of New Jersey,” and her husband, Joe, will be in court today, charged with conspiracy to defraud lenders as well as with hiding assets during a bankruptcy case. NBC’s Kristen Dahlgren reports.

>> here's the indictment. accused of lying to banks, the irs and bankruptcy court . but it wasn't lost on the head of the case when he said everyone has to be truthful with the court. and that's the reality.

>> on real housewives of new jerse jersey, teresa giudice and her husband joe have been at the center of all out drama but now they're facing real life drama that could end in serious prison time. a federal grand jury said they committed mail and wire fraud , bank fraud and making false statement and joe giudice is charged with failure to file tax returns from 2004 to 2008 when he allegedly made nearly $1 million.

>> the life style that they lived, whether or not that was supported by certain income that they claimed or didn't even claim during those years. certainly that show will be a piece of evidence against the defendants.

>> reporter: when the giudices filed for bankruptcy in 2009 , teresa talked about it on the show.

>> it made us stronger. didn't bankrupt us.

>> reporter: but the businesses failed and rental income and teresa 's income from the show, more than $110,000 per season. joe 's attorney couldn't be reached for comment while teresa 's attorney said she will plead not guilty. in a statement she maintained her support for her husband and said i am committed to my family and intend to maintain our lives in the best way possible which includes continuing my career.

>> sometimes that instant fame can lead to poor decision making . for teresa and joe reality is getting very real.

>> teresa also said she hopes to resolve this matter as quickly as possible. if convicted the giudices could face more than 30 years in prison and millions in fines. bravo had no comment on how they plan to handle all of this on the show.
