Raising triplets: 200 diapers, 182 bottles a week

One mom, who was surprised with triplets, shares her hectic daily routine and how she’s come to grips with raising three children simultaneously. NBC’s Kristen Dahlgren reports.

>>> one pregnant mom received the surprise of her life. she thinks she's having twins. then she finds out she's having triplets. she's been on the go ever since. here is kristen.

>> reporter: in 2011 , cortney williams went to her doctor and was told she's having twins.

>> okay, we can do two babies.

>> reporter: another ultrasound told a different story.

>> i'm looking at the ultrasound thinking it's impossible. i'm not seeing what i think i'm seeing. all i'm thinking is what am i going to do with three babies?

>> reporter: now 6-month-old devin.

>> she is a momma's girl.

>> reporter: alie ja.

>> he's mr. i love everybody .

>> christian.

>> he's a daddy's boy.

>> and 12-year-old jordan.

>> the first thing she does is comes in the room to see the babies.

>> reporter: william's day really begins at night.

>> if they go down at 7:30, they are up for a bottle at 10 and 1:00 or 1:00, sometimes 3:00 or 4:00 or 4:30 the last bottle.

>> a day that comprises round the clock feeding, changing, playing, washing and spraying.

>> there are moments where i definitely have to go inside myself and tune it all out.

>> reporter: how many diapers?

>> in a week, probably 200 diapers.

>> it can look like groundhog day .

>> nothing is the same. the only thing i know from day-to-day, i'm going to wake up and they are going to be here and we are going to have an adventure for the day.

>> reporter: that means frequent trips to the store.

>> they are going through 21 to 26 bottles a day.

>> how about laundry?

>> i do laundry twice a day every day.

>> reporter: her life wasn't always babies 24/7. she quit her job to stay home with the triplets.

>> i love it but it's a lot of work. it's a full time job.

>> reporter: a job her husband holds in high regard.

>> i admire my wife every day. i go to work. her job is harder than mine.

>> reporter: sometimes williams does doubt her own ability.

>> everybody get enough love. does everybody get enough kisses?

>> reporter: the answer is yes. while some may wonder how her chaotic day doesn't cause multiple breakdowns, it's a life she wouldn't trade for the world.

>> when i wake up in the morning and have been up all night feeding babies, changing diapers and they roll over in the morning and look at me and give me a huge toothless grin, i'm like okay, i can do this.
