Target introduces personalized concierge service

It may sound like the kind of perk reserved for hotels and high-end stores, but mass-market retailer Target is planning to offer concierge services in more than 200 stores by the end of the year. NBC’s Mara Schiavocampo reports.

>> this is an area where there's a lot of products, there's a lot of questions and a lot of uncertainty for our guests and they just wanted someone to kind of help them out and guide them through it.

>> reporter: the beauty industry is worth an estimated $54 billion and growing. experts say targeted customer service like this is a way for retailers to set themselves apart.

>> having this tailored concierge like service is one way the stores can get those women to buy even more product. this is just one way of getting that trust and gaining that trust and making sure that customer shops at that store.

>> i think it's really helpful because there's a lot of options here, so it's really nice to have some help.

>> when it comes to retail traditionally the only place we see something like this is at department stores but with such a competitive landscape, experts say more stores like target, maybe even drugstores will likely start to adopt this targeted customer service . back to you.
