Amanda Bynes is latest child star to face arrest

Actress Amanda Bynes is facing new charges this week after allegedly throwing a bong out the window of her Manhattan apartment. It is the latest incident for Bynes, and has people drawing comparisons to other troubled former teen stars. NBC’s Kristen Dahlgren reports.

>> reporter: the image of amanda bynes in court unkept. a different picture from the rising star on nickelodeon and movies like "hair spray." bynes is charged with reckless endangerment, and possession of marijuana as police investigate allegations of drug use saying she threw a bong more than 30 stories out her manhattan apartment and bynes denies illegally throwing anything out of her window. this isn't the starlet's first time in front of a judge. in los angeles last year, bynes pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence . two hit-and-run charges were eventually dropped and last fall bynes was given probation for driving on a suspended license. she's changed her once wholesome appearance and recently has been known to tweet barely clothed photos of herself. bynes has insisted there's nothing wrong and plans to launch a fashion line.

>> this is a young lady who used to be articulate and a child star and behavior is getting more bizarre and concerning.

>> reporter: bynes is far from the first young star to run into problems. lindsay lohan is frequently in court. britney spears once appeared to have a public meltdown. even teen sensation justin bieber has recently had public scuffles where police were called in.

>> just because they're famous and have money or have a lot of talent, doesn't mean they're well developed and emotionally healthy.
