Woman with ’80s hair gets hot new look

Stylist to the stars Louis Licari and TODAY contributor Jill Martin make over two women from Tennessee and Texas who trade in the sweatshirts and hair from the 1980s for beautiful upgraded looks that make them look younger.

>> we always had fun picking but today as a great day. it was raining, but woe found two great makeovers.

>> one is kim shropshire. she just lost 30 pounds and hasn't cut her hair in more than a year, so her friends begged her to give her a brand new look. let's take a listen.

>> okay. kim is hyperventilating and keeps saying i'm so nervous. why?

>> because -- i don't know. just nothing ever happens like this to me, you know. i'm from a small town, white pine , tennessee, yeah!

>> when's the last time you changed your look?

>> oh, years ago.

>> never.

>> she looked like that in fifth grade when i had her in class. yes.

>> all right. what do you think about, you're going to see a whole new mom.

>> i'm nervous, i'm going to be honest. i don't know.

>> well, we're going to take good care of you, okay?

>> are you going to stop hyperventilating?

>> i'll try.

>> first of all, this is a great haircut. you know, why have hair this long when you can have this beautifully shaped. you look fantastic. they lightened her hair. we updated your look. you look younger, you look fresher.

>> you look like a different person.

>> what do you think, sweetheart?

>> it looks amazing.

>> do you love?

>> you're beautiful.

>> they're not going to recognize her in white pine , are they?

>> jill , that dress, adorable, perfect.

>> i actually own that dress. turn around. how pretty is that zipper? this was a negotiation. she said i'll wear a dress but not heels or heels but not a dress. so this is from maggie lennon.

>> our second lady is kim bach, 52 from round rock , texas. two southern ladies this time. she's had the same look as long as she can remember so she bedding us to bring her into the 21st century . let's listen to her story.

>> now with kim number two, the '80s have come and gone. my hair still hanging on. so i guess you really want this?

>> yes, i really do. i am doing this because of one of my students. he -- i'm a p.e. teacher in round rock , texas, and he said, coach bach, you've had the same hairdo ever since i've known you, and he's 28 now. so -- and that was in the fourth grade.

>> what's his name?

>> chris loftus .

>> all right, chris, we're going to do it. we're going to give her a whole new look. i think you're ready to do it.

>> i am, very much so. i really appreciate this opportunity.

>> very sweet.

>> all righty, she's here with her mom dorothy and her friend, melinda. let's take one last look at kim before and bring the new kim right out here.

>> wow! all right, ladies. take off your blindfolds.

>> oh, my gosh! you look great!

>> you're not making a lot of noise but they really do like it.

>> turn around, kim , and see what they're looking at.

>> oh, my gosh. oh, i love it.

>> sassy, very sassy. all right, what did you do, louis?

>> okay. we started with a cut. again, we just had to give her style. she had a nice haircut but it just needed shape and style, makes all the difference. i lightened and warmed up her hair color , which was key. her hair was a little bit frosty looking, which can be a little bit ageing and she's a young -- look at that young face. of course accentuated with a new spring palette.

>> and that darling twirl -- oh, mom, are you crying?

>> a little bit.

>> i'll go get some kleenex and we'll ask jill to describe that darling dress.

>> it's peplin, obviously they in for spring/summer.

>> a one-piece?

>> yes, from maggie london. we tried on a bunch but felt sexy in this one.
