‘Powerful’ spring snowstorm hits Colorado

A May snowstorm is expected to dump an unprecedented six to nine inches of snow from Denver to as far west as Minneapolis. TODAY’s Al Roker reports.

>> it has the potential to dump an unprecedented amount of snow late in the snow, up to a foot in some areas.

>> good morning, guys. yes, a powerful storm from estes park , denver , ft. collins looking at snow as well. we're going to be looking at a major winter storm even though it's may 1st . it's a powerful front system bringing snow from denver later on today from minneapolis , where you have winter storm warnings up for minneapolis . here's what's happening over the next 24 hours . storm gets itself together. starts off as rain and snow in minneapolis , changes over to all snow and then continues to push to the west. here's what we see as far as accumulations. denver , anywhere and the surrounding areas, 6 to 9 inches of snow. some areas as much as a foot of snow. as we make our way to the west -- to the east, i should say, and north from mason city , minneapolis , on into wisconsin, another 6 to 9 inches of snow. down to the south there's a storm system that's part of this whole mess. it's going to be pushing in. some areas in southern florida picked up 10 inches of rain yesterday. then what we're looking for over the next 24 hours from new orleans into louisiana, into parts of florida, anywhere from 5 to 7 inches of rain. so, we've got snow and we've got flooding all out of the same system. matt?
