Plane skids off runway into the sea

A Lion Air plane was attempting to land when it overshot the runway in Bali, and fell into the sea from a height of about 160 feet. One passenger said everyone on board was screaming, and thought they would drown. NBC’s Annabel Roberts reports.

>> good morning. local police say there were more than 100 passengers and crew aboard this plane on an internal flight to the island of bali. the plane was attempting to land when it overshot the runway and fell into the sea from a height of 160 feet according to aviation ministry and it landed in shallow water yards from the end of the runway. one passenger said everyone onboard was screaming thinking they would drown. another told local tv there were holes in the floor of the plane. the fuselage cracked behind the wings and you can make out in some of the pictures people in life jackets floating in the water. they were able to climb out of the aircraft and swim to safety helped by rescuers. at least seven passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment for broken bones and head wounds but most were escorted in soaked clothes back to the airport terminal and treated there. the plane is operated by an indonesian airline that flies internally within the country. bali is a popular holiday location. i haven't had confirmation if there were other nationalities on board yet. all survived and lucky to have survived this ordeal of their plane ditching in the sea.
