'I was lost': How cooking saved him from a life of drugs, gangs
By the time Cesar Gutierrez was 16, he had already gone to jail twice, experimented with gang life, sold drugs and ran away from home. Today, the 22-year-old is a sous chef at a popular Manhattan restaurant, has cooked with Daniel Boulud and is the winner of a prestigious scholarship that will allow him to continue his culinary education in Paris.
