>>> she has landed one of the most coveted roeltz on television. annasophia robb plays carrie bradshaw made famous by " sex and the city ." we meet the future writer before the clothes and mr. big, when she was just in high school in the 1980s . take a look.
>> that was your big chance.
>> flashing strangers? i don't think i want that on my resume.
>> clearly i misjudged you.
>> what do you mean?
>> i thought one day you would make a name for yourself. i can imagine your picture on billboards and the side of a bus .
>> you may think doing this is a good idea, and monica penny may think it's a good idea and everyone here may think it's a good idea, but i don't, so i said no, and that's me owning my power.
>> you're nice.
>> how are you?
>> were you very familiar with " sex and the city " before you auditioned for this role?
>> i was not. i was very young when the show ended, but as soon as i started auditioning, i got all the seasons and became a huge fan, and i watched the show all the time.
>> i always wonder how people get the roles. obviously, you're terrific in it, but you claimed it was the chicken dance at the audition.
>> let's hear about that.
>> yeah, i had like a week-long of just series of auditions, and at the end they were talking -- they were trying to get to know us. it was so weird. and they said, so you're going to prom, right? how do you dance at the prom? i just kind of started breaking it down. i don't know. i just started doing the chicken dance , and peter ross told me that i got the role because i tried to be goofy.
>> you were being you.
>> i was being me. that's my advice to young girls. just be you.
>> now, did you study carrie bradshaw , and were you trying to kind of emulate the way she spoke and those kind of things?
>> no. i mean, i watched the show, and i tried to kind of pick up little mannerisms here and there. we're not trying to be " sex and the city ." we're not trying to replicate her her beautiful performance. we want it to be -- it's carrie before we knew her as the carrie bradshaw .
>> carrie is still in high school , right, and she's got an internship one day a week at a law firm , and her mom passed away. she's going through a lot of stuff.
>> she's really -- this is a really transitional time for carrie right now. it's her first sort of romantic relationship , her first real job, and we'll see her get more and more involved.
>> her first relationship in new york city too. she's a connecticut kid who falls in love with the city.
>> and she carries a purse, and there was like a mistake, wasn't there, on her purse? what happened?
>> her rebelus little sister actually spilled nail polish all over her mom's old purse, and so carrie instead of getting upset she kind of reinvents it with her own sort of artwork.
>> she gets some traction with that?
>> it's set in the 1980s . did you get attracted any of the fashion?
>> at first i was a little hesitant. was i going to be goofy? eric damon is our costume designer, and he is did " gossip girl ." he is very talented.
>> we wish you the best with this. it's on cw.
