>> like hoda!

>> happy new year.

>> same to you, both of you.

>> this show is a little feisty.

>> it is. this show is about a mission. as i stepped out " dog whisperer ," that helped me save relationships, this is going to help me save lives.

>> a dog can save a person's life too.

>> absolutely, absolutely, yes. around the world, 600 million dogs die. my mission is to stop this from happening. most of them are abandoned. that's a horrible thing. this is what we do, bring that awareness. but the goal is to find the right energy for you, compatibility is the most important thing.

>> we're going to talk about a few things. one thing we've had trouble with on the show, both of us --

>> mine wasn't my fault, it was the dog.

>> holding on to dogs. let's look at tape and watch the issues we've had.

>> take a picture while kathie is holding him.

>> oh, oh, oh, that was a nose dive, we remembered that one. mine just ran sideways. i caught it and did not curse. i'm just letting you know. maybe you can show us the proper way to hold a dog.

>> bring out buffy .

>> let hoda hold buffy .

>> what do you do?

>> little hesitant. what you do is bring it right away and hold it.

>> bring to your heart. heart to heart , hoda.

>> like a bag of rice.

>> that's what you want to do. little hesitant. there you go.

>> oh, you look good together. oh, hoda!

>> mindset is very important.

>> you love your mommy hoda, don't you.

>> look where her behind is, is that okay?

>> that was her tail, sorry.

>> so let's have --

>> let's bring ratatoulle. you can see the energy here, a little tense.

>> good one.

>> he needs a little bathy. he lives up to his name, let me tell you.

>> so you're going to give us a few tips, handful of tips.

>> number one is match the right energy dog for you.

>> you know what i love about buffy , i have to say, she's very docile. that's kind of the dog i want. just lays there.

>> once in awhile they do want to go out and poo, though. you have to do that and feed and bathe her.

>> take them for a long walk before you bring them home.

>> should i put the dog home?

>> why?

>> because the dog is in a shelter. they don't really go outside. too many dogs for volunteers to walk them properly. you have a dog that's pent-up energy. before you enter in the house, make sure you go inside first. this is your territory. think like a dog.

>> what about finding out as much as you can about their history so you would know they might have special concerns?

>> what about with that is people hold on to the past and start feeling sorry for the dogs.

>> clean slate .

>> think about it. new life.

>> your dog looks constipated. [ laughter ]

>> let's put it this way, i hope he is.

>> cesar, we've got to run. you've got a great show on. thank you.

>> thank you very much.

>> all the dogs are available for adoption, aren't they, hoda?

>> yes, they are.

>> catch cesar on nat geo wild .

>>> we're going to show you how to go from craze
