Kerry Washington: ‘I had to learn German’ for ‘Django’

The actress chats about her newest film, “Django Unchained,” directed by Quentin Tarantino, revealing she had to learn a new language to prepare for the role and calling the film’s portrayal of slavery “important.”

>> i do, named broomhilda von shaft. the story is about myself and jamie foxx 's character, who are sold and separated and he is trying to rescue me from one of the worst slave owners, owned by leonardo.

>> he calls this chick vision. that's how i watched it.

>> very familiar with chick vision. the thing that's interesting, though, is that so many of his films have been violent over the years, in this film it really lends itself to the reality of what slavery was like in the freed civil war south. so you feel like this is a film where that violence is necessitated to tell the story.
