Anger brews over North Korea rocket launch

The international community is condemning North Korea's launch of a long-range rocket, with the US and its allies calling it a test of technology that Pyongyang would need to mount a nuclear warhead on a missile. NBC’s Jim Miklaszewski reports.

>> reporter: good morning, natalie. after four unsuccessful failures, north korea shocked the world with this successful launch. and the white house called it a provocati provocative. the three-stage unha 3 like this one blasted off on the coast, take i taking off on a southern course, passed over okinawa. as planned, jettisoned into second stage in the philippines. tracking the rocket, they reported the missile deployed an object that appeared to achieve orbit. north korean television, an excitable anchor announced mission accomplished . the successful launch is sure to give a huge boost to north korean president kim jong un who took power only a year ago after the death of his power. but it raises fears in the west that kim is now ready to further develop their nuclear capability. u.s. officials warn the satellite launch is actual aimed at developing long-range missiles that could carry a nuclear warhead as far as the u.s. west coast . this morning, even china, north korea 's strongest ally, condemn this had launch. it's not clear yet whether the u.s. will actually seek additional economic sanctions against north korea . natalie?
