>> he is hailed today as a hero. petty officer nicholas check was part of navy s.e.a.l. team six, part of the team rescuing a doctor. in eastern afghanistan, immediately came under intense enemy fire . navy s.e.a.l. check took a single bullet and later died of his wound. they killed seven taliban fighters and miraculously rescued dr. joseph unaharmed. he earned a bronze star and two other awards for valor in combat. native from monroeville, pennsylvania, lettered in wrestling, widely amired by coaches and classmates alike.
