Leann Rimes: ‘I deserve happiness’

With over 40 million records sold worldwide and a career that has earned two GRAMMYs, Leann Rimes has had her own struggle to find inner peace. “I've been really proud of myself to be able to come to terms with all these emotions that I have whether it be anger or hurt or, you know, even the happiness,” Rimes told E! News’ Giulianna Rancic.

>> reporter: in 1997 at just 14, leann rimes became the youngest artist to win a grammy. she was catapulted to a life of stardom with pressures that she now says she was unprepared for.

>> as a kid, you're told what to do and what not to do and you don't want to disappoint anyone. there was a moment where i think i was incredibly depressed and not quite sure of who i was, and really disappointed in myself. to feel that alone and not really know what in the world is happening with my life.

>> reporter: in the 15 years since, leanne has become a music superstar, but her personal life has had its ups and downs . an affair with her then co-star, now husband eddie cibrian that ended both of their marriages, to tabloid allegations of an eating disorder, and most recently, the decision to check herself into a treatment facility for stress and anxiety. at what point did you decide you know what, i want to go get some help.

>> the new blended family that i had and new marriage and the past history of pain, you know, it was just time. there's a lot of drama that kind of surrounds -- has surrounded me. so i had to figure out how to separate that and how to focus on the positive and leave the negative.

>> what was that conversation like with eddie ?

>> eddie was really supportive. he knew it was an opportunity to finally take care of myself. he went through therapy with me. he wanted to make sure that he knew what i was going through, what i was experiencing.

>> after the treatment, how would you say your relationship with eddie has changed?

>> we're really strong. we made it through all of it. life has kind of settled back down, and way more settled than we used to be.

>> reporter: leanne writes about her emotional journey on her new album "spitfire" and even criticized some of the choices she's made in her new single "borrowed."

>> i call myself pathetic in the truth and it's truth. i was at a very low moment. there was a true freedom in that.

>> reporter: a freedom that's allowed leanne to embrace both her failures and successes.

>> i've been really proud of myself to be able to actually come to terms with all these emotions i have, whether it be anger or hurt. i deserve happiness just like everyone does.
