Curtis Stone’s all-American chicken noodle soup

>> two delicious comfort food recipes perfect for any time of the year. the first is a chicken noodle soup .

>> this is a healthy chicken noodle soup . this is a brilliant dish you can do so simply and quickly and stick it in the fridge. back into the hot pan you throw veggies. this is why it's so good and healthy for you. i've got some thyme, garlic, celeries, carrots, and leeks. dump it all in.

>> biggest job so far is cutting up everything.

>> there's no rules. you cut them bigger than this, take a tiny bit longer to cook. little bit of salt, i like that. pepper.

>> got it.

>> good stuff, good stuff. you sweat all this down, takes five minutes or so. once you sort of get some of that flavor and smell it happening, you dump in the chicken broth .

>> okay.

>> how much are you sticking in there?

>> two cups. but you can put more, you can put less. this is a really simple, simple recipe.

>> look at this. is that the cutest thing?

>> look at this, you guys, usually you have a spoon holder, this is a spoon holder but it's got water in it and it looks like a high-heeled shoe.

>> curtis , you make this.

>> we do.

>> this is going to be our christmas gift this year?

>> it is. nearly sold out on the website before christmas, so get it fast. precook some pasta, whole wheat, whatever your favorite is, little bits of spaghetti. toss it in, bring it to a boil.

>> look what's happening.

>> once it comes back to the boil, that's when you readd the chicken so it doesn't get overcooked. it's a perfect, simple, healthy if you're ever feeling under the weather. here, this is for you. for you, hoda.

>> you got your chicken noodle soup , real classic. not too hot, i hope.

>> uh-huh, uh-huh. it is. bu burn us every single time. tell us about the next thing.

>> this is like a tostado. i've got apples here i've peeled and sliced up. orange zest . mix those together. okay, it's dead set , that easy. next i've made a pastry dough. use your favorite. this is a simple one, all in the food processor , really easy. dump the apples on top of the pastry like that. then i've made a little topping here. you could even mix this through the apples, but this is sugar, a little bit of butter, tiny bit of flour. pinch of salt. salt's always important.

>> why salt?

>> just like with savory food, you want to give it that little bit of seasoning. and this one --

>> pinch it around.

>> easy enough.

>> so simple, brush it with a little bit of butter, cook it in the oven. the apples cook down.

>> he's just turned 1.

>> walking -- taken him to the beach a couple of times. i've got him his first surfboard, which a darling friend of mine made. we haven't put him on just yet. she's doing great, back working, which she enjoys.
