>> let's explain to people before you get started what exactly it is. how do you choose where the week goes on this matrix?

>> there are four categories, brilliant, despicable, highboro and low browne broumpt send an e-mail out to all the new york magazine contributors and editors and our matrix editor chris bananos goes through all the contributions of things that may seem matrix worthy and goes about designating each thing to each quadrant and there's a little back and forth. actually have been fights that have broken out amongst "new york " magazine staffers in with regards to which things go where.

>> if you subscribe to the "new york " magazine it's on the back. leaning despicable highboro, rolling stones , with a higher average age than the supreme court justices .

>> at this point in time the average age of the supreme court justices is 66, and the average age of the rolling stones is 68.

>> wow.

>> which is kind of a bummer when you think that the rolling stones really are rock 'n' roll to generations of people, and when you see a 68-year-old wearing a skinny tie or headband sometimes you have to wonder if it was intentional or he got dressed in the dark.

>> getting away with it. selling out the stadiums. keith is 68 years old and only looks about 115. despicable, the united states in the 1950s had a plan to bomb the moon with a nuclear weapon .

>> yes, in 1958 during the cold war there was a secret plan the u.s. had intentions of detonating a nuclear bomb on the surface of the moon destroying it to freak out the soviets, and i think in retrospect we're glad it didn't go through. i think we made the right call. nice to have the moon. it makes the night brighter.

>> love it, and it was built, i guess, by an australian skateboarder who put this together.

>> skateastan.org.

>> and brilliant, last night big event here at nbc on 30 rock . liz lemmon at long last gets married.

>> i love that she said that's the only white dress i had.

>> and he got the ring at a police auction.

>> yeah.

>> really rome stick.

>> finally and quickly, despicable, low brow , as low as it gets. tough getting around it?

>> "liz & dick," the lifetime movie that premiered on saturday was too bad to even be funny. really tough to watch. a lot of people had parties and thought this would be crampy and funny, and it ended up just being sad and three days later she gets arrested again for punching a woman in the face.

>> tough week, no question.

>> we pray for lindsay.

>> thank you. the approval matrix, "new yoorew york " magazine. kathie lee and hoda coming up next.
