>>> christopher reeves started his career best known as superman and became a real life hero to many after an accident left him paralyze. this marks the 30th anniversary of the christopher and dana reeves foundation and here is their son matthew. good to see you.
>> thank you.
>> your father was so beloved. and now you're on the board of directors urself. why did you want to carry on his work?
>> after my father passed away and sadly my stepmother dana shortly after, we couldn't imagine not being involved. my sister and i joined the board in march of 2006 . and we lost two fearless leaders in a short amount of time. and there are 6 million people living with paralysis in this country, 1.3 million with a spinal cord injury , and we wanted to continue their mission and honor their legacy.
>> you said something very poignant. you said although it's not a role your father would've chosen, but it's one he chose to embrace. how did he embrace it?
>> well, as you said, he found himself in this -- in a position and he just advocated for research dollars and he got himself out there. he could've chosen to just, you know, sit at home and be a recluse. but he got out there and got out in the public eye and became a face of paralys.
>> as did your stepmom too. that was really special what they did.
>> good to hear you're continuing it with the siblings, as well. thank you for being here, matthew.
