Jackson’s kids touch Grammys audience

Music’s elite is silenced as Prince and Paris Jackson accept their father’s lifetime achievement award at the Grammys. TODAY’s Meredith Vieira takes a look at ceremony highlights, including big wins for Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

>>> with last night's grammy awards , while beyonce and taylor swift were the big winners, the highlight of the evening was a special appearance by two of michael jackson 's children.

>> please welcome prince and paris jackson , everybody.

>> on a night when the music industry honored it's very best, prince and paris jackson touched everyone's heart. accepting the lifetime achievement award for their father.

>> thank you, we are proud to be here to accept this award on behalf of our father, michael jackson . first of all we'd like to thank god for watching over us for these past several months and our grandma and our grandpa for their love and support . we would also like to thank the fans, our father loved you so much. because you're always there for him. our father was always concerned about the planet and humanity. through all his hard work and dedication, he has helped many charities and donated to all of them. through all his songs, his message was simple -- love. we will continue to spread his message, and help the world. thank you. we love you.

>> there was actually a hush over the crowd. and this is a crowd that doesn't often hush. so you could tell it was really something that touched people to see these children after all this time.

>> i respect the secret magic of nature.

>> to mark michael's award, there was an all-star performance of michael's " earth song " with a special video performance that the audience watched in 3-d. the big winner of the grammys was beyonce , who broke the record for most wins by a female performer with six trophies, including song of the year and best female vocal performance. there were some surprises.

>> "use somebody"!

>> the southern rock band, kings of leon beat out beyonce , lady gaga , the black eyed peas and taylor swift for record of the year.

>> i'm not going to lie, we're all a little drunk, but we're happy drunk.

>> and the grammy goes to --

>> taylor swift .

>> it seemed that no one was more surprised than taylor swift after she picked up her fourth grammy. the biggest one of the night, album of the year for "fearless."

>> this is the story we're going to be telling over and over again. in 2010 , we got to win album of the year at the grammys. thank you, thank you, thank you.

>> she had a good year. great performances, i saw some of the top of the show, including pink. i'm sure you've seen pink.

>> she did like a cirque du soleil in that piece of fabric.

>> i think she does that in her act, if i'm not wrong. not the first time she's done this. then to be all wet and spraying the audience.

>> is she singing live?

>> yes, not recorded.

>> that is live.

>> wait a minute. i hadn't seen this part.

>> she is singing, matt, did you pick up on that?

>> i didn't have the sound for a minute.

>> close your mouth. wow, she is some performer.

>>> and i thought what kings of leon said, every morning, a little bit drunk, but happy drunk.

>>> that's nice.
