MARIA MENOUNOS reporting: A top-selling recording artist, 19-year-old Chris Brown had it all. The music, the dance moves , and a beautiful girlfriend, pop superstar Rihanna . But all that's now in jeopardy after Brown was arrested for allegedly making criminal threats and attacking an unidentified female. Brown has now reportedly hired famous defense attorney Mark Geragos , who has yet to comment on the case. His high-profile clients in the past include Michael Jackson , Winona Ryder and Scott Peterson . Sponsors are now distancing themselves from the troubled singer. Wrigley 's Doublemint gum has said it's suspending any current ads featuring Brown until the situation is resolved. Chris Brown and Rihanna have been dating for over a year. The two were spotted at the Clive Davis party just hours before Brown allegedly attacked a woman suspected to be Rihanna on this street in a parked car.
Mr. KEN BAKER (E! Entertainment Television): What we've been told is that Rihanna actually suffered severe bruising to her face, she was smashed in the jaw, and in fact, she had bite marks on her arm. There were serious signs of a struggle .
MENOUNOS: Representatives for Rihanna released a statement that simply reads: " Rihanna is well. Thank you for your concern and support."
Mr. BAKER: I've been told that Rihanna 's family wants to get her out of LA , get her back to her native Barbados to recover from this, but most importantly they want to keep her away from Chris for the moment.
MENOUNOS: It's doubtful that Rihanna will appear at a scheduled concert later this week in Asia . As for Chris Brown , he's scheduled to appear for arraignment before a judge in Los Angeles next month. For TODAY , Maria Menounos , NBC News , Los Angeles .
