American advisers helping Iraqi forces take back Mosul from ISIS

American advisers, including Defense Secretary Ash Carter, are assisting Iraqi forces to advance on Mosul and locate ISIS. One of the tasks is to clear bombs, which was the job of Chief Petty Officer Jason Finan, the American killed when an IED went off by his vehicle this week.
