Facebook users had trouble accessing the social media website Monday morning, with many receiving an error messages stating, "An error occurred. Please try again later." Some who were able to log on to the site found they were unable to post a status update, instead receiving an error message which read, "There was a problem updating your status. Please try again later."

A Facebook spokesperson confirmed the problem to NBC News, but said it was now remedied:

Earlier this morning, while performing some network maintenance, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We're sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused.

This story was updated at 11:55 a.m. ET to include Facebook's statement and acknowledge the return of service.
