Recent reports claimed that signal-blocking technology would be installed during the royal wedding in order to prevent guests from using Twitter, but Scotland Yard and Met police spokespersons are now denying that such devices will be used.

The confusion began when Yahoo! published a story claiming signal-blocking technology would be installed at Westminster Abbey in order to prevent anyone from displaying improper cellphone manners during the royal wedding ceremony:

It was feared that with 1,900 people inside the church, including royals, celebrities, and members of the general public, there would be a risk of guests using their phones to use Twitter to send information from the Abbey ahead of Prince William and Kate Middleton's nuptials.

The move was suggested by senior members of the royal family and approved by police and security personnel over the last few days, and also met with the approval of television broadcasters keen to avoid any unfortunate sightings of guests on their phones -- or even untimely ringtones disrupting the service.

This claim was later dismissed in a story published by CBS, who explained that representatives of both Scotland Yard and the Met police denied that there is any truth to the Yahoo! report:

CBS was told by Scotland Yard Wednesday night that it was not aware of any such device being installed.

Met police spokesman Eddie Townsend said Thursday morning, "The story is not true, rubbish."
