With millions of followers on Twitter, various celebrities can often do their best work in the wake of a disaster by simply asking their fans to help. That's the ongoing case right now as the devastation from Typhoon Haiyan becomes abundantly clear in the Philippines.
From Pope Francis to former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, many people simply re-tweeted links to various web sites listing organizations providing relief to those in the storm's path. NBC News compiled a list detailing how groups such as The American Red Cross are helping.
George Clooney told Esquire magazine in its December issue, "I don't — for the life of me — I don't understand why any famous person would ever be on Twitter." But that doesn't mean the actor has shied from lending his help after previous disasters, such as the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. And Saturday night at the Britannia Awards in Los Angeles, the Oscar winner said he was sure celebs would again "rally some troops" to help those in need.
