Whether you shop at Zara or just stroll by it at the mall, chances are you've been saying the name of the clothing retailer wrong.
That's because, despite the fact that it's a simple four-letter name, it's not pronounced the way it looks — at least according to the people who work there.

The global brand is based in Spain, and in the Northern Castilian accent, it doesn't sound like "zahrah" or even "zairah."

The "Z" has more of a soft "th" sound, and the slightly rolled "R" is closer to a "D." The result: "tsah-dah" or "dzah-dah."
But don't take our word for it! Refinery29 caught up with one of the company's communications reps in A Coruña, in northwest Spain, and had her give a pronunciation tutorial on camera.
Don't feel bad if you've been saying it any other way.
Even Pronunciation Book, the YouTube channel that's long served as the Internet's unofficial guide to saying things right, got this one wrong.
