Two teens in the White House! Sasha Obama turns 13

As if there weren’t already enough drama in the White House these days, President Obama and the first lady now have two teenage daughters living under the roof with them.

Sasha Obama, who turned 13 on Tuesday, was only 7 when she moved into the White House. That made her the youngest child of a presidential family living there since John F. Kennedy’s children, 3-year-old Carolyn and 1-year-old John Jr.

Unlike many of her peers, Sasha has been anything but an awkward teen, showing poise under the glare of a constant spotlight cast down upon her and her 15-year-old big sister, Malia.

The first daughters

The historic halls of the White House ring with the energy and enthusiasm of youth: presidential daughters Malia and Sasha. Here are images of their adventures over the years.

No longer the little girl who yawned during her father’s campaign and convention speeches, Sasha has blossomed over the past half-dozen years into a spunky but composed young lady who isn’t afraid to show off the personal sense of style she apparently inherited from her mother. Case in point: After she was photographed wearing a black unicorn sweater last fall at a basketball game, the ASOS knit sold out quickly and created a frenzy online.

Sasha also isn't afraid to accept hand-me-downs from Malia and own them with style, like the gemstone green skirt she wore on Election Night 2012. The frock was first spotted on her big sis a year earlier at a White House State dinner.
