Michelle Obama's speech on Tuesday night may have wowed political analysts, but fashion watchers walked away equally as impressed with the first lady's dress.
The big question in the day that followed: Where was the dress sold?
To the disappointment of many, it was quickly revealed that the pink and gray silk Tracy Reese dress was a custom creation. But eager shoppers can ready their wallets. While the dress is not yet on shelves, designer Tracy Reese confirmed on TODAY Thursday that her company TR Designs is trying to get it out as soon as possible.
"It was something that we are planning for later so we are trying to rush it through the cycle so more people can get their hands on it sooner," Reese said on TODAY.
And the price? "Under $500, so affordable for some," she said.
The dress was one of several designs that Reese sent Obama's team, but it wasn't until the first lady stepped out on stage that the designer knew for sure that one of her creations was in the spotlight.
"We were warned there was a possibility, but they weren’t sure until the last minute," she said. "We were all crowded around and listening to every minute. It was such an amazing night."
It's not the first time that the first lady has stepped out in Reese's designs, having worn them on at least 15 different occasions.
The sleeveless dress was classic Michelle Obama – it showed off her much-admired upper arms, while still lending an air of femininity and credibility to the event. By pairing it with $245 J. Crew shoes, she stuck to her signature style of mixing high fashion with retail brands.
Causing almost as much of a stir as the first lady's dress were her nails. The grey shade of polish was identified as "Vogue" by Artistic Nail Design, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The color, a gel polish that can last up to three weeks, is available only at nail salons.
"Every phone call and email we’ve received this morning so far is in regards to the “Vogue” [shade]," Irene Chao of Artistic Nail Design told TODAY.com. "This is very exciting news for the brand and we’re sure that the color will not only be a huge hit, but will also start setting trends in both beauty and fashion."
