You didn't think they were gone for good, did you?

UGG boots, the Australian footwear that seems more divisive that politics, topped the list of most-searched online items this holiday season, according to Experian Marketing Services. The snuggly shoes beat out such holiday front runners as the iPad and Kindle Fire and even fashion staples like Barbie.

The news comes as a surprise, since it was reported that UGG sales have fallen in the last year, and because they're no longer seen on A-list stars as they once were. Although Jessica Simpson was spotted in a pair over Christmas, the style has seemingly fallen from celebrity grace: in December, British fashionista Alexa Chung slammed the company's latest collection, $190 sequin-studded styles that sparkle like a chunky disco ball.

"They're on the hit list. Along with whoever brought back harem trousers," Chung tweeted.

Then there's Victoria Beckham, who does indeed own a pair, but would never be seen out in public wearing them. "I wear them only at home," she told France's Madame Figaro magazine.

Is keeping one's UGGs indoors a common trend? On TODAY Wednesday, Al Roker and Willie Geist proudly admitted they owned UGG slippers that don't get much fresh air. "You wear them around the house, or out to the store if you started getting older and losing it a little bit," joked Geist.

What do you think? Are folks too critical of the sheepskin style? Are you a fan of UGGs? (And did you receive a pair this holiday season?) Chime in!
