Kate Upton has finally done it — the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model has landed her very first Vogue cover. The buxom blonde fronts the November issue of Vogue Italia, which is no small fashion feat, especially for a model once deemed “too obvious” for the likes of Victoria’s Secret.
Upton works a Fendi coat, Patricia Field top, costume jewelry by Kenneth Jay Lane, and a bright red lip in the Steven Meisel-lensed cover shot.
The 20-year-old has really risen through the ranks of the fashion world since fronting the Sports Illustrated‘s Swimsuit Issue in February. Upton has booked a a slew ofcovers and no shortage of editorials, including two for American Vogue. The Florida native has been praised for her curvaceous body and confident, playful demeanor.
"I don’t want to starve myself," Upton told U.S. Vogue in Oct. "I still want to hang out with my family and be a normal girl. You have to be confident, and that doesn’t mean starving yourself."
The cover of Vogue Italia marks a seriously noteworthy accomplishment for the model — editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani is known for her controversial spreads and high-fashion shoots. Now we just wonder: will a U.S. Vogue cover follow? Only editor Anna Wintour knows.
