All those risque getups and ever-changing hairstyles finally paid off.
Fashion Week darling and style risk-taker Rihanna has been announced as the 2014 recipient of the CFDA Fashion Icon Award, WWD reports. The prestigious honor, to be presented on June 2, has been previously held by the likes of Nicole Kidman, Kate Moss and Lady Gaga.
“We are proud to present Rihanna with the CFDA Fashion Icon Award for her impact on the industry as fashion’s most exciting ambassador in recent memory,” Steven Kolb, the CEO of CFDA, said in a statement.
A designer enthusiast, Rihanna has worn everything from Balmain to Betsey Johnson, has been spotted at shows for Stella McCartney, Chanel and Givenchy, designed collections for well-known brands such as Emporio Armani, and posed for Vogue magazine more than once.
Moving forward, Rihanna has even expressed interest in launching her own fashion label.
“It’s not all down to my voice," the singer told Vogue last month. "There's people with way more talent than I when it comes to singing; bigger voices. But people want to know who you are. Fashion is a clear indication, a way to express your attitude, your mood."
