Catwalk fashion is hardly created with the everyday woman in mind, much less moms juggling work, kids and home life. But that’s about to change with the first ever fashion show for mothers, set to debut at New York Fashion Week in February.
With the goal of highlighting the best in attainable fashion, Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show aims to help moms put together stylish and affordable looks using clothing currently in stores. Real moms will even get a chance to walk the runway in the show, with a little help from their celebrity counterparts. (No word yet on which lucky star moms are booked.)
“Just because you are a mom, you don’t have to change the way you look,” Denise Albert, co-organizer of the show and founder of TheMoms.com with partner Melissa Gerstein, told TODAY.com. “Mothers should know that even if they have to take the kids to school, run to work, then pick up the kids, and go out in the evening, they don’t have to carry around loads of bags with different outfits. There is a way to make a fashion statement that fits with who you are.”
The show, the first in what the organizers hope will be an ongoing venture, will be live-streamed from Lincoln Center on Feb. 16, meaning that interested moms can watch from the comfort of their desks, instead of dropping everything and heading to Manhattan.
