Neil Patrick Harris talks weepy, 'wonderful chaos' of wedding

Neil Patrick Harris has been a busy man in 2014: His hit sitcom, "How I Met Your Mother," came to an end; he played a mustachioed villain in "A Million Ways to Die in the West"; he won a Tony for his starring role in Broadway's "Hedwig and the Angry Inch"; and he's got a major part in the year's most talked-about thriller, "Gone Girl."

And, oh yeah, he got married!

After being with his partner for over 10 years, Harris swapped vows with David Burtka in September, and the experience proved much more emotional than the star anticipated.

"Yeah, 'cause those vows are something you write yourself, that you don't really show anyone," Harris told TODAY's Matt Lauer of his "blubbery" reaction. "[The vows are] the tenets which you believe and are committing to for a long-term relationship — for the rest of your life. So to vocalize those is just intense."

Being a groom himself gave him a totally different perspective on weddings in general.

"It was like a lot of wonderful chaos," he recalled. "While you're in the process, you're worried about weather, you're worried about someone not showing up on time. … It's hard to get out of the minutiae when it's yours."

Now the chaos is behind him, and although the year's not even over, the newlywed is happy to already dub it an "amazing" one.
