Meteorologist Liberté Chan asked to cover up dress on live TV, calls it a 'joke'

When meteorologist Liberté Chan prepared to deliver the weather forecast for KTLA viewers Saturday morning, the first dress she selected didn't work with the green screen.

So she simply reached for another one.

But her backup choice sparked backlash from some viewers — and a surprising on-air development.

In the middle of the forecast, her co-anchor reached right into the shot and dangled a gray cardigan in her direction.

"What's going on?" she asked. "You want me to put this on? Why? 'Cause it's cold?"

No. The reason, according to her co-anchor, was that they were "getting a lot of emails" about her sparkling black dress being inappropriate for morning TV.

But those disapproving emails were nothing compared to the way viewers reacted to seeing Chan being asked to cover up.

However, Chan says there's really no need for all the fuss. On Sunday, she penned a reply to viewers explaining that it was all just a joke.

"For the record, I was not ordered by KTLA to put on the sweater," she wrote in a post on her blog. "I was simply playing along with my co-anchor’s joke, and if you’ve ever watched the morning show, you know we poke fun at each other all the time."

She went on to insist there's "no controversy at KTLA."

"Since talking to my team, I want our viewers to know it was never our intention to offend anyone," she added. "We are friends on and off the air and if you watch our newscast, you know that."
