Melania Trump wears a sparkly black suit to congressional speech

As President Trump addressed the joint session of Congress, first lady Melania Trump looked on from above.

The former model is no stranger to bold fashion statements and Tuesday night was no different.

First lady Melania Trump arrives before her husband's address on Tuesday.

The first lady chose an encrusted black suit from the Michael Kors Spring 2017 collection for the evening. The demure color was accented by a touch of sparkle in the form of sequined embroidery and beading throughout the skirt and jacket and topped with a wide black belt; the same style shown at the runway presentation.

A model walks the runway in the same suit worn by the first lady.

The tailored outfit is full of '80s references — like a plunging neckline and exaggerated shoulders — but the monochromatic aesthetic paired with her sleek, polished hairstyle offer a more sophisticated take on the era.
