When the TODAY gang considered McConaughey's comments Wednesday morning, Natalie Morales said that she understood that need for a nudge, having offered similar encouragement to her husband, Joe Rhodes, back in the day.

"I know when Joe and I were basically almost living together, it got to a point where I was like, 'OK, when's this going to happen?'" she recalled. "Yeah, I put a little pressure on him.'"

That's when Al Roker chimed in on behalf of Team Guy, and admitted, "We need a little help."

Actually, the ultimatum from Alves wasn't the only thing that helped McConaughey make his matrimonial decision. Eventually, after talking it over with lots of folks, he discovered it was what he really wanted all along.

"I had to get to the point where I saw it as more than just the thing to do," the Oscar winner told GQ. "I wanted to really want to. ... So I spent a lot of time with her. We talked about it spiritually. We did a lot of reading and talked to a lot of people that had been divorced, a lot of people that had been happily married. We talked to our pastor. In the end, our understanding was, 'Let's go make a covenant, with you, me, and God. And let's understand that this is not a destination, this is the beginning of an adventure that we're taking together.'"
