Furry fashion: Top designers create pet couture - for charity

March 22, 2012 at 9:36 AM ET /
For a charity auction, Giambattista Valli created a girly, marabou-trimmed design for a stuffed pug.

Fashion has really gone to the dogs.

Top designers, including bold-faced names such as Valentino, Missoni and Roberto Cavalli, have created fun and festive outfits for one lucky stuffed animal. As part of the "Pug Dogs for Happy Kids" charity auction on Ebay — in support of UNICEF Project Arise, benefiting street children in Bangladesh — 21 labels went all out creating outfits for a toy dog (complete with the same miserable expression many real dogs seem to adopt when put in costume!)

Through May 6, you can bid on these stylish stuffed masterpieces. (Although fair warning, as with couture for humans, mere mortals may want to just look: bidding on three of of the outfits already exceeds $1,300).

Here are a few of our favorites: /

Manish Arora: "Eccentric Indian designer Manish Arora uses his bright and bold touch to create an eye catching one of a kind stuffed toy." /

Roberto Cavalli:"Working the designers famous glam rock edge, the fabulous pug toy works one of the designers shearling coats with signature crystal embellishment."

Missoni: "This soft toy dog wears a multicolor jumpsuit in loop stitch creating a soft and warm mantle that makes the dog looks like a sheep." /

Blumarine: "Take head designer Anna Molinari’s sense of spontaneity and fun, mix it with Blumarine’s three dimensional floral print for Spring/Summer and you get a very special one of a kind stuffed toy that is bursting with bright colors and energy." /

Mary Katrantzou: "Mary Katrantzou has established herself as one of the most exciting, young designers and her fabulous stuffed toy is testament to her artistic use of print that has made her a fashion insider favorite." /

Theyskens' Theory: "A huge hit in New York and beyond, this fashion forward designer takes inspiration from his iridescent Spring/Summer collection to create a stuffed toy as lust worthy as the pieces themselves!" /

Mugler: "Chic and punk, a zombie crystal mask and pearl corset give this special stuffed toy a luxurious but irreverent look totally in the spirit of Mugler."
