Fashionable football: Marchesa designs shirts for the NFL

Marchesa is the go-to for a wow-worthy, head-turning red carpet moment — case in point: anything dramatic that Eva Longoria wears, or, you know, Blake Lively's wedding gown — and now the label is turning its attention to something on the opposite side of the spectrum ... sports.

At a private New York City event on Tuesday night, Marchesa co-founder Georgina Chapman released a limited-edition top inspired by the pigskin-throwing team, the New York Jets, a look she created after Suzanne Johnson, wife of Jets owner Woody Johnson, approached Chapman and her Jets-loving husband Harvey Weinstein with the idea.

"It's been a year in the making and I can't wait to unveil the Marchesa shirt for the masses, a real fashion forward statement for female fans that elevates team apparel," Johnson told  "My design philosophy centers on the dramatic and feminine; beading, embellishments, and lace are an integral part of the Marchesa aesthetic," Chapman told "It was instinctive to approach the Jets piece in the same manner. I am so pleased with the end result and hope fans will wear it with pride." /

This top is made with jersey fabric and beaded with Swarovski crystals, and will sell for $110 at starting tomorrow. And if you're not a Jets fan, Marchesa's Chapman has more up her sporty, sparkly sleeves — expect designs for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, and Washington Redskins in the near future.
