The temperature isn't the only thing rising this summer! We're loving this season's lineup of hot nail hues, so we asked a few of our favorite celebrity manicurists to pick their must-have manicure and pedicure color combos — from nude and neon combos, to bold pastels layered under glitters. Keep reading to see their favorite new mani-pedi pairs!
Take a walk on the wild side — literally! According to celebrity manicurist Ashlie Johnson, who works with Reese Witherspoon and Kristen Stewart, it’s all about high-octane hues this summer. “I’m really in love with anything bright—the colors look so good with a tan and with sexy sandals,” Johnson said. “For both the hands and toes, I’m obsessed with Chanel’s Holiday ($26; chanel.com) and pinks like Rose Exuberant ($26; chanel.com).
“Warm and cool tones offer a gorgeous color payoff,” said manicurist Jenna Hipp, who loves a summer mani decked out in RGB’s Dove ($16; rgbcosmetics.com). For your toes, Hipp recommends NCLA’s Poolside Party...All Eyes on Me ($14; shopncla.com), a creamsicle orange she used on Miley Cyrus. “The color reflects vibrant runway prints, and works with any skin tone.”
Why not rock the neon and pastel trend at the same time? Katy Perry’s manicurist Kimmie Kyees loves soft hues, paired with shocking neons. “I am very much into pastels, glitters, and neons,” she said. “I like the Essie shade in Lights ($8; essie.com) on the toes. For your hands, try NARS’s Kutki ($18;narscosmetics.com), a beautiful sky blue.”
Dress it up
But the fun doesn’t end there — to really dress up your mani-pedi combo, Kyees recommends layering a glitter top coat over each shade. “For a fun added effect, try Zoya’s Chloe ($8; zoya.com), a sheer rose shimmer, over the bold pink, and China Glaze’s Luxe and Lush from their Hunger Games collection ($7; ulta.com) over NARS’s blue.”

Combining a classic nude with Pantone’s color of the year is an easy way to keep your look timeless while staying on-trend, and April Foreman, who works with Natalie Portman, recommends doing just that. “In the summer, I like to balance bright neons on the toes with a neutral flesh tone manicure,” she said. Her favorite buff hue? Dior’s Safari Beige ($23; sephora.com). “For pedicures this summer, I’m a bit obsessed with Lal Mirchi by NARS ($18; narscosmetics.com), and Ginger Fire by Tom Ford ($30;saks.com). Keep the look modern by pairing with a neutral tone on your hands.”
One thing to keep in mind when using different lacquers: Keep the darker shade on the toes. “I’ve seen it done the opposite way, and that has started to grow on me, but I like to use the shimmery pink Pedal Faster Suzie by OPI ($8.50; opi.com for locations) on my hands,” Kyees said. “For toes, Nubar’s Blue Raspberry ($8; bynubar.com) is really pretty. It’s a gorgeous turquoise green!”
Even if your polish gets chipped, you can keep the look going strong with a quick swipe of shimmery polish. “Glitters and metals are a great way to cover imperfections quick,” said Hipp, who loves Butter London’s Diamond Geezer on the hands, and the glittery gold West End Wonderland on the toes ($14 each;butterlondon.com). “Use these colors over any polish to give your look an instant pick-me-up, or use as an alternative to jewelry to jazz up an outfit.”
