In the '50s, Sophia Loren perfected the cat eye – and now, there’s a new feisty Italian putting a fresh spin on eye makeup: Silvio Berlusconi.
The Italian prime minister is currently the target of sex allegations, and when it comes to appearance, the infamous politician proves he’s just as able to elicit tongue-wagging. In a recent New Yorker profile, Berlusconi admitted he’s not one to shy away from women’s makeup. In fact, he swears by two choice beauty products: foundation and eyeliner.
"He wears white eyeliner on his lower lids to make his eyes pop in photographs, and he uses heavy foundation on his face, which renders him the same orangey-brown color as the cast of 'Jersey Shore.' His hair is thinning – 'because I had too many girlfriends,' he once said, before he got implants – and dyed a vivid burnt sienna. Despite these efforts, he is not a young seventy-four; Berlusconi, in the words of his best friend, is a bit dilapidated."
Berlusconi knows light-colored liners are eye-openers, and his wide-awake look surely comes in handy in the courtroom.
“Similar to how beige and blush pumps or sandals elongate your legs, applying lighter eyeliner to the inner lash lines is a backstage beauty secret that will blend with the white of your eyes to help them appear bigger and brighter,” said TODAY style editor and Bobbie.com's Bobbie Thomas. “Nude pencils will offer a more subtle effect, while white looks a little more mod, and just a dash of frosty shaded shimmer works best on the inner corners of your eye.”
Wondering how you can adapt Silvio Berlusconi’s beauty secrets? Bobbie Thomas shares her favorite finds:
