There are some common "dirty" beauty words: dandruff, fat, wrinkles... basically all the things we don't want on us. Linda Wells of Allure Magazine shares her expert solutions for these tricky problems:
Solution: SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.5, $54
Dermatologists' top pick to treat wrinkles tends to be retinol, which is a derivative of vitamin A that boosts cell turnover and increases collagen production. This product contains 0.5% retinol and has a time-release system that helps minimize irritation.
Solution: Jergens Natural Glow Gradual Self-Tanner, $8.99
Self-tanner is the easiest way to hide cellulite! This Jergens self-tanner contains odor-reducing technology to prevent that rancid self-tanner smell and is designed for daily use. You'll barely realize it's there as it's hiding your cellulite. And don't worry about the tanning aspect: It's very hard to overdo and turn orange as color builds gradually.
Solution: Secret Clinical Strength Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant Stress Response, $9.99
Our bodies need to sweat. It's God's way of temperature control. And to fix it, it's all about anti-perspirant, which should be applied at night. Secret's Clinical strength anti-perspirant contains 20 percent aluminum (the most you can get without a prescription). The product also contains skin-soothing conditioners such as dimethicone and petrolatum.
Solution: Head & Shoulders Damage Rescue Shampoo and Conditioner, $4.99
Head & Shoulders saves the day here with it's secret formula of zinc pyrithione. It also helps control other scalp issues such as inflammation, itchiness, irritation, redness, dryness and leaves hair's surface smoother.
Problem: Facial acne
Solution: La Roche Posay Effacler Duo, $36
A recent Harvard Medical School study surveyed almost 3,000 females ages 10 to 70 and found that over half of them get acne, no matter their age or whether due to hormone fluctuations or other issues. In a double-blind clinical study, this product reduced the number of inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions equivalent to the leading prescription.
Problem: Body acne
Solution: Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub, $7.99
Believe it or not, the back and butt harbor more bacteria than the face, especially when you wear tight clothing and pores get clogged with bacteria leading to "bacne" or "buttne". Zapping bacteria is the first step in treating it. This scrub contains 2 percent salicylic acid, contains microbeads for exfoliation and is designed to smooth away rough skin without irritating and help prevent breakouts.
Solution: Various Sally Hansen Nail Tools $2.99 - $13.49
