Russian pair skaters Maxim Trankov and Tatiana Volosozhar not only won an Olympic gold medal Wednesday night, they earned redemption for their country.

The Russian pair skaters hope their win renewed a winning streak for their nation that ended in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics when Russia was nowhere to be found on the medal podium. Before then, the country had won gold in 12 consecutive Winter Games.

In addition to the gold, Russians also claimed the silver medal with a performance by Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov.
